The community is invited Saturday, April 29, 2017 to the Second Annual Blue Fest at Nash Community College. The campus festival will include the Third Annual Run for Knowledge 5K, inaugural Disc Golf Scholarship Tournament and additional short activities tied to college programs. A Student Expo will be held to exhibit academic work well done. Blue Fest is for the entire family and there will be activities of interest for everyone.
At 8:30 a.m., the Third Annual Run for Knowledge 5K will begin at the NCC Continuing Education and Public Services Building. Runners and walkers of all skill levels are invited to register to enjoy a morning of fun as they take off for the trees in a race featuring a combination of road and trail with some of the best views in Nash County. Each Run for Knowledge participant will receive breakfast, lunch, a race bib and runner bag featuring local foods, specialty race items and a few surprises to take home. The inaugural 18-hole Disc Golf Scholarship Tournament will wind its way across campus with a host of excellent holes; both wooded and open with some water in play. Action will begin with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start at the first hole located by the NCC Library. Check-in will be from 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m., with a player’s meeting at 9:30 a.m. for instructions on play. A trophy presentation will be held immediately following the tournament. Live music will feature NCC students Owen Ellis and Valerie Wood as they perform folk and rock covers along with NCC’s own student-run radio station. While taking in the sights, sounds and experiences of Blue Fest, attendees may enjoy the best of craft beers brewed on campus by NCC Brewing, Distillation and Fermentation students, and sample Midway Café’s fare, or stop by the Tuscan Patio for wood-fired pizza made by NCC Culinary Arts students.
Blue Fest will feature free family-friendly and dog-friendly activities throughout the day. With hands-on, real-world demonstrations participants will have an opportunity to experience the latest in occupational training. Don’t miss the Electric Line Academy Rodeo as students showcase their skills in the Hurtman Rescue and Obstacle Pole events.
An advanced manufacturing demonstration will introduce festival-goers to robotics, automation, 3-D printer prototyping and more… all techniques taught in the College’s Zifferer Family New Standard Corporation Advanced Manufacturing Lab and applied in local manufacturing settings.
Other activities include a truck driving simulator, drone demonstrations, fire extinguisher training, rappelling, blacksmithing, face painting, forensics lab tour, guided trail walks on the LiveWell and Learn Trail and more.
